Welcome To My Scriptwriting Page

     This piece is something I wrote for my narrative film class MFJS 3218 capstone project to be considered as one of the pieces chosen to create a fllm production. However, I pulled the piece from consideration at the last moment, because I realized it wouldn’t quite be realistic for students to be able to film inside of a hospital due to the lack of budget, time and connections.  This is a piece that I thoroughly workshopped within my Creative Writing Fiction class and I am much happier with the way the script is. However I feel like there needs to be more tweaking of the story to make it a little more compelling. This piece originated as a short story, which was later turned into this script. This is another piece that shows my strength of being able to take critiques and apply them to my writing. This original story piece was something that I submitted to a couple of places and got rejected which is very exciting! The short story served as two of my first professional rejections from journals, making me one step closer to my first yes.

     I learned so much about story structure and endings creating this piece and also logistics as a student filmmaker. Usually, when I write I don’t like to be limited to one plane and I like my imagination to run wild. However, this piece was something that I wanted to create to serve as something a little more realistic in the student filmmaking climate. I am proud that it follows a beautiful queer journey, but still has a tragic end.  This assignment definitely gave me the skills to be able to look at my work objectively and to be able to write in a way that I enjoy and create a better story. This assignment is still something on my list as something that I would really love to make, because it means a lot to me and is a script that has gone through a LOT of feedback and reworking.
