100 years forward 2 steps back:
Originally, this piece was created for my ENGL 2010 Creative writing fiction class. The goal of this assignment was to create a fiction draft in any genre you desired. This piece was my very first attempt at long-form fiction work. In writing this draft, it demonstrates my willingness to start over, particularly when I feel like a draft is not serving me. I learned that I do know when it is time to start over and that I am an accurate judge of whether or not my writing is good or bad. I am proud of myself for not taking my professor's critiques too hard, and instead adjusting and restarting my story and creating something better. This piece fits into my portfolio because it is something that took a little bit to be able to add to my profile, because it completely rewired my relationship with writing. I have not been able to re-read this piece because I spent so much time getting it to a readable point for grad school applications that I lost the joy of reading it. However, I am excited to revisit this with a clearer head and the knowledge that other institutions believe in me and my writing.
