The Thearical Over the Brain:
My Othello critique was something very different from what I was used to writing. This piece was the final project for my Rediscovering Shakespeare study abroad class where we were given the creative freedom to write whatever we wanted about Othello. It included our likes, dislikes, and in betweens.
The progression of this piece shows how I am able to admit when I am wrong and also display the changes in my thought process regarding Othello. I learned a lot about Othello and its purpose of making the audience feel a certain way while both reading the play and writing this piece. This is a piece that I am proud of writing because it shows an advanced knowledge of Shakespeare. It fits into my portfolio because of my theater background. This piece shows my love for classical theater as well as my personal gripes with the Othello story. I am most proud of being able to go back and understand the true depth of the story as well as how I feel like I reflected that in my critique. It fits in my overall portfolio because it is an insertion of my theatrical background and demonstration of my classical theater knowledge. I am looking forward to going back to Shakespeare and being able to have a deeper understanding of the next piece that I read. Often I find that I have a lot of trouble with Shakespeare pieces because they are so complex. I feel like this assignment reflected what I wanted it to in a way that was honest and concise. Even though this was purely an opinion piece the format was fairly professional (considering this was my writing two years ago). This just makes me more excited to learn and write more!
