Multilingualism and the American Dream:

This piece was my final project for WRIT 2000 Theories of Writing, and I hate it. The goal of this assignment was to come up with your own theory of writing and how it related to the readings we were assigned in class. This is definitely one of my least favorite things I have ever written, because I feel like it does not showcase my strengths as a writer at all. Was I able to get my point across? Kind of, but I know I could have done a better job and I can tell that I did not put enough energy into this piece (mostly because of the point in time this was written). However, this piece shows that even in my darkest times, I am able to write a somewhat cohesive analytical draft.. This fits into my portfolio as a continuation of advocacy for multilingualism in the classroom as well as understanding the lived experience as an immigrant/ child of an immigrant. This piece has taught me that it’s okay to take your time and that it's okay to have some writing that is hard to do and not necessarily good.. This piece, although I thoroughly am not proud of it nor do I want to read it again is a perfect example of academic resilience that I displayed despite the absolute inner and outer turmoil I was experiencing during this time. My life was completely upheaved, but I was still able to write a 5 page critical essay despite the overwhelming circumstances in my life at the time.
